What I Bought My Husband for His Birthday

What I Bought My Husband for His Birthday

I love playing with fashion and personal style; that is something I’ve always known. But what I’ve realized recently is that I also love styling my partner!

My husband is a gamer and loves receiving tech as gifts, so when I asked him if he would be upset if some of his gifts weren’t game-related, but something I wanted to get him pertaining to style, he said of course not. So I was so excited because I absolutely love what I picked out for him!

When we were in Florida in December, we stopped by the Levi’s store so I could get some new jeans (thanks to my new COVID weight lol) but he showed me a few items that he liked, including this charcoal gray jacket. So I kept that in my memory bank for later. I purchased it for his birthday and he was so excited to receive it! It fits him like a glove and he said it is so warm, perfect for when he rides his motorcycle. And it also has a special memory attached to it, so that makes it even more significant.

I also purchased a game for his Playstation and then also these Steve Madden sneakers that are so nice. They are black leather casual sneakers that he can wear to dress up an outfit, possibly to wear out for date night or just to wear somewhere nice. He also liked the shoes!

5 Things Making Me Happy Right Now

Hello friends! I am all about spreading positivity, so I figured I’d share a few things that have been making he happy lately. I hope this list inspires you to also recognize some things that bring you joy as February begins, and that you make them a more active part of your day. Check out my list of delights below.

  1. Music. Loud, good music that I like. And these songs include:
    • Wow by Zara Larsson feat. Sabrina Carpenter
    • Heartless by The Weeknd
    • Girl Like Me by Black Eyed Peas and Shakira
    • Last Hurrah by Bebe Rexha

2. Reading. Currently, I’m reading Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen by Serena Valentino. I’m about 3/4 of the way through the book and I am really enjoying this spin on the evil queen’s side of the Snow White fairy tale.

3. There’s a short article in the February 2021 issue of Better Homes & Gardens called “The Language of Flowers,” where they briefly discuss the meanings behind a variety of flowers. Prior to reading the article, I liked pink lilies and roses for their smell and appearance. Knowing that pink lilies symbolize prosperity and roses represent beauty only makes me adore them even more.

4. Blogging. I have always loved writing and this blog gives me a space to write about whatever I want! ☺️ It’s nice to have a creative space to work on a hobby.

5. Fragrance. I am very sensitive to smell and I prefer good smells as often as possible. Lately, I’ve really been enjoying cleaning with the Mrs. Meyers cleaning products because I like the smell it leaves behind on surfaces. (I disinfect surfaces first before using Mrs. Meyers). We also just finished two Bath and Body Works candles, with Flannel being my favorite.

What’s been making you happy lately? Leave a comment below!

Pretty Work from Home Outfit Ideas

Pretty Work from Home Outfit Ideas

Hello, friends. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling a bit tired of wearing sweatpants everyday for work. While I do enjoy the comfort of elastic bands in my loungewear, I’ve been wanting a change in my daily attire. Something a tad more dressed. So I looked up some of the newest trends for 2021 and applied them to what I would realistically wear while working from home everyday and found exactly what I was looking for.

Over the next few months I”ll be adding the following items to my wardrobe: Puff sleeve dresses, shirt dresses and satin skirts.

These dresses and skirts are perfect for those days when you need to get yourself out of a rut and, come on, how can you not feel pepped up after looking at such pretty garments? The dresses are great because all you have to do is add a statement necklace, stud earrings and maybe a subtle bracelet. For the satin skirts, pair them with a v-neck or boat neck t-shirt and some statement earrings. I promise, after months of wearing sweatpants and loungewear sets, these new additions will have you feeling excited to dress for work in the morning.

Here are the links to the items in the collage above.

  1. ASOS ruched shoulder-belted soft prom midi dress
  2. True Muse Risa midi skirt
  3. ASOS midi shirt dress with ruched waist
  4. Lulu’s black eyelet lace button front tiered midi dress
  5. True Muse Leo midi skirt

Let me know in the comments below. Will you be adding any dresses or skirts to your WFH attire this year?

What I Bought from MAC Disney Springs

What I Bought from MAC Disney Springs

As I mentioned in my previous post, my husband and I went to Orlando, FL in December and it was such a fun trip. When we weren’t at the theme park, we were shopping and eating at Disney Springs. I stopped by MAC to browse around and left with a few products thanks to a promotional sale they were having. I also had a wonderful sales assistant named Aysha who really helped me find products to solve a few problems.

I ended up purchasing Spiked eye brows styler, 24-Hour Smooth Wear Concealer in NC44, Brun eye shadow, and two refill pan blushes in Modern Mandarin and Fever (both no longer available). The brow pencil and concealer are perfect for those days when I need to run an errand but don’t feel like putting on a full face of makeup. Since the concealer is the same shade as my foundation, it’s perfect for spot coverage. The eyeshadow is for filling in sparse spots in my hairline. I actually already use Modern Mandarin blush, but have never used Fever. Both were on sale for $10.20 each so I had to snag them.

One thing I love about MAC products is that they are super pigmented, great quality and last a really long time.

Have you tried any of these products before? What are some of your favorite MAC products?

How I Pack My Beis On the Go Essential Case

How I Pack My Beis On the Go Essential Case

Hello friends,

2021 is here and I have hope that this year will be better than last year. Last month, my husband and I traveled to Orlando, FL to check out Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios. It was such a fun getaway for just the two of us, so I didn’t have to pack too heavy. I was able to pack all of my makeup in the Beis On the Go Essential Case, plus some additional toiletry items. I am still working on the best way to pack all of my toiletries when traveling, but I will share once I get that process down!

One of my favorite design elements of this case is that it is clear, so you can easily see what’s inside. I also really like that a mirror is included, so you can do your makeup in the car or on the plane if you’re in a hurry. (I’ve tested this out and it does work!)

On one side, I packed all of my makeup, which includes: Mac Studio Fix Fluid foundation, Maybelline Fit Me concealer, Mac Mineralize Skinfinish powder, Mac Modern Mandarin blush, Maybelline Brow Ultra Slim eyebrow pencil, Wet n Wild eyeliner pencil, Mac Mulch and Woodwinked eyeshadows, Sephora Lashcraft mascara and Vaseline lip therapy. I also packed contact lenses and my travel size Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb perfume.

In the other side, I packed a Burt’s Bees brightening face mask, my Cetaphil face cleanser, deodorant, travel size of Carol’s Daughter Mimosa Honey hair pomade, Olay moisturizer and eye drops.

What do you pack in your toiletry and makeup bags for a weekend trip?

What’s On My Christmas Watch List

What’s On My Christmas Watch List

Hello, my loves! Can you believe we’re only a few weeks away from Christmas? I think we can all agree 2020 has been a crazy year and celebrating Christmas can either feel like a welcome distraction or just another day in this wild year. To help you get into the festive mood, I’m listing a few of the movies on my Christmas watch list! Here we go.

1. Jingle Jangle

This movie was so adventurous and fun! Journey is a bright and clever young girl who visits her estranged grandfather, a scientist named Jeronicus Jangle, for the holidays. Through music, community support and a little bit of Christmas magic, Journey helps her grandfather conquer his fears and foes. If you’re looking for a movie with fun, original music, dancing and a timeless family Christmas story, this is a great selection! Watch on Netflix.

2. The Princess Switch 2: Switched Again

Being completely transparent with you, I love any movie, television program or book that deals with royalty, and this movie did not disappoint. The Princess Switch 2 follows Princess Stacy as she tries to persuade Duchess Margaret to reconcile with her ex-boyfriend Kevin. The timing is urgent as the duchess is preparing for her coronation. Stacy and Margaret, who look identical but are not related, decide to switch places for a day to give Margaret one last chance to salvage her relationship with Kevin. Plans go awry when another look-alike has her eyes on the crown. Watch on Netflix.

3. A Godwink Christmas: Second Chance, First Love

This movie was so cute. Margie has the job of her dreams and she’s up for a promotion when her high school sweetheart moves back to town. After a few instances of being in the same place at the same time (hence the term “Godwink”), reminiscing on past memories and creating new ones, Margie and Pat must decide whether to follow their hearts or let the moments pass. Watch on Hallmark.

4. Deliver by Christmas

Molly is a bakery shop owner in a small, charming town and she runs into Josh, a single father who’s new to the area. Josh’s wife passed away a few years ago and his son realizes that he’s sad and lonely. So he makes a wish that his Dad finds someone to make him happy, and that Santa delivers that person by Christmas. Watch on Hallmark.

5. Operation Christmas Drop

Has your job ever sent you to a small country to gather information about a project in order to cut its funds right before the holidays? Well, now you know the predicament that Erica is in. Erica is a political aide, and her job is her life. When she goes on assignment in Guam, she meets Captain Andrew and they butt heads. But as he shows her more about the secret project and how it impacts the local community, she must make a decision to please her boss or continue helping the locals…and Andrew. Watch on Netflix.

6. Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker

This documentary follows the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and its annual production of the Hot Chocolate Nutcracker. I learned so much in this film about dance history and how Debbie Allen is truly a dance icon. Watch this film if you want to learn more about the performing arts, specifically with a perspective in Los Angeles’ African American community. Watch on Netflix.

7. Sugar Rush Christmas

Cupcakes, confections and tiered cakes all with a Christmas theme? sign me up! This baking competition show is such a joy to watch and the bakers are so talented. Each episode has a theme, so if you’re watching for inspiration or just for entertainment, you are in for a treat. Watch on Netflix.

8. A Bad Moms Christmas

I know this movie is from 2017, but it was my first time watching it. I must put a disclaimer that this film is very inappropriate, but oh so funny. The interactions between the original cast and their on-screen mothers were so hilarious! I mean, Amy’s mother (played by the legendary Christine Baranski) getting mad at her for not being prepared for Christmas a.k.a. “The Big Show.” And Cheryl Hines as the clingy, over-stepping mother and Susan Sarandon as the free-spirited absent mother. This plot was wild and the delivery was so perfectly hilarious. Highly recommend, but be prepared for the raunchiness! Watch on Netflix.

So, what did you think of my list? Are there any Christmas movies or programs you recommend I watch this year?

Autumn/Winter 2020 Coats I’m Loving

Autumn/Winter 2020 Coats I’m Loving

I’ve been looking ahead to fall/winter fashion and I have been getting so inspired by all of the beautiful coats available for purchase right now. From classic to boho to trendy, there are so many options to keep you stylish and warm this season. The wrap coat is very feminine and classic, while the multi-colored faux fur jacket is great for those who want to make a statement. For those who prefer leather jackets, the tan faux leather jacket is a great twist on a closet staple. A great thing about coats and jackets is that no matter where you live, you will get multiple wears out of them over the years. The better quality you buy, the longer they will last. I’m a firm believer that clothes should be functional, but every now and then, it’s good to add a wild card piece just for fun!

  1. Express Belted Wrap Front Coat – This black wrap coat is very classic and elegant.
  2. Tahari Ella Wrap Coat – This tan wrap coat is another great option for fall.
  3. Multicolored Faux Fur Coat – Isn’t this coat so much fun? I love the black, pink and white combination.
  4. Anne Klein Peacoat – You can’t go wrong with a traditional black peacoat. If you’re trying to decide what coat to get next that is both stylish and will keep you warm, this is what I’d recommend.
  5. Zara Faux Leather Trench Coat – This is another statement piece. Imagine your mother’s tan trench coat, but made entirely of faux leather. It’s surprisingly very pretty. The waxy look combined with the neutral color makes for a very trendy, yet chic, coat.

Biltmore & Downtown Asheville Trip 2020

Biltmore & Downtown Asheville Trip 2020

If you know me, then you know that I love fashion, makeup and beauty. Another love of mine is traveling. With the current pandemic, most of our travel plans for the year got cancelled, but we were able to squeeze in a trip to Asheville, North Carolina, and it was such a fun trip. Everywhere we went, safety precautions were taken by our group as well as the businesses. So if you’re thinking about making a trip to this Southern City, keep reading for some restaurant, shopping and tourist ideas.

Downtown Asheville

One thing you’ll hear a lot about Asheville is that it’s a very artsy area. Most of downtown is filled with boutique shops, independent restaurants and art galleries. The vibe is very calm and relaxed, but don’t let that fool you. The food and arts scene is very high quality.

We had a group of four and started our day around 11 a.m. with brunch at Sovereign Remedies. The restaurant is very niche and relaxed, offering a chef-curated menu. We started with a round of mimosas, which were divine: the orange juice wasn’t too sweet and the bubbles from the champagne lightly danced in your mouth. Next up were the entrees. I had the Sovereign Hangover Cure, which consisted of house made breakfast sausage, home fries, fried egg and a micro salad. Finishing up, we had another round of cocktails where I opted for the Autumn Spritz.

After leaving the restaurant, we walked around downtown (masks on) to browse around the shops. We stopped at a local chocolate shop, French Broad Chocolate Factory & Cafe. This gave us an opportunity to try different items and, once again, everything was delicious. From the hot chocolate, to the chocolate snickerdoodle cookies, to the peanut butter and milk chocolate brownies, these sweet treats were truly decadent. Imagine the best brownie you’ve ever had, but richer, more dense and just the right amount of sweetness.

Biltmore Estate

There is so much to do at the Biltmore Estate. From touring the 19th century mansion, to dining at the restaurants, wine tastings, shopping, outdoor excursions, the list goes on. I will confess this was my fifth visit to Biltmore, but each visit is different. I continue to learn more about the history of the home and its impact in the community, I am still inspired by the decor and architecture, and I really enjoy strolling through the gardens for a little exercise in nature. The home is simply breathtaking and you must see it for yourself, especially if you love history and museums. I highly recommend going between November and January if it’s your first time. The house will be decked to the nines for Christmas and there’s this ambiance of holiday magic that simply cannot be replicated.

Food and Shopping

After you’ve worked up an appetite touring the home and gardens, head over to Antler Hill Village for food, wine and more. Due to safety precautions, there is limited capacity for the winery tours and tastings. You’ll want to make reservations in-person on the day of your visit. Since the wine tasting is a popular option, I would recommend signing up in person as early as you can to get your name on the list.

Restaurant reservations are a little bit easier to navigate since you can book through the Open Table app. Luckily for us, we opted to dine at Cedric’s Tavern around 5-5:30 p.m. and there was no wait! 🙂 Cedric’s Tavern has a very casual, yet sophisticated atmosphere. The menu features English pub favorites, small plates and of course, a selection of Biltmore wines. We tried the whiskey cured Scottish salmon and the pimento cheese with with house pretzel chips. For my main dish, I had the Carolina bison burger and paired it with Pinot Noir. Every part of this meal was delicious and the customer service was outstanding.

To finish the trip, we browsed through the shops at Antler Hill. My cousin and his wife have this tradition of buying a Christmas ornament at new locations they travel to, which I think is so cool! They picked up an ornament that has the Biltmore house engraved on it. I purchased a dainty gold enamel initial necklace from Traditions. After shopping, it was time to head back home.

September 2020 Favorites

September 2020 Favorites

Happy fall! It seems like September flew by so fast. This month, I tried a couple of new beauty products, one fashion find and two other general items that have made my life better. All summer, I’ve pretty much had a consistent routine, but I switched it up this month with some new finds that make my morning routine faster and more efficient. Please keep reading below for my new faves.

Stamp Kit – I have been putting more effort into scrapbooking and lately, I’ve been loving my stamp set. I love how uniform all the letters are, the fact that you can change the ink color, and most importantly, it’s more cost effective than sticker letters! I use this stamp set and this ink pad set.

Miss Jessie’s hair products – Ever since March, I’ve been doing heatless styling and trying new products for curly hair. This line is by far the best leave-in and curl enhancer combination I’ve tried! I find that I need heavier products for my textured hair, so if your hair has similar needs, I highly recommend!

Calvin Klein handbag – I was searching for an all black leather handbag, so naturally I walked out of the store with a faux leather white and tan one! lol While I didn’t find what I was initially searching for, I did find this gorgeous handbag. Here’s a similar style.

Lancome eye makeup remover – My sister-in-law gave me this product and I really love it. My eyes are really sensitive and when removing eye makeup, this cleanser does not burn my eyes and it removes everything, even two coats of mascara!

Starbucks Blonde Iced Coffee – I was watching one of my new favorite YouTubers and she was sharing her updated morning routine, which included how she makes her coffee. I had given up hot coffee for almost a year in favor of tea, but this iced coffee is so wonderful. I add non-dairy creamer, a little sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon. It is delicious!

Diffuser – As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been doing heatless hairstyles all summer, and you know what? Sometimes you don’t want to have wet hair all day. So having a diffuser is nice on those days when you really want to get rid of the excess water. I use this one and like it so far!

Fall 2020 Foundation and Other Goodies

Fall 2020 Foundation and Other Goodies

Happy September! This month ushers in a few seasonal things: Pumpkin spice coffee drinks, fall decor and the desire for a little change. A lot of the influencers I follow have been posting fall outfits and sweater ideas, but where I live, the temperature is actually still in the 90s. No sweaters for me any time soon! But it’s nice to get some outfit ideas before the temperature drops.

Since it’s still hot here at home, I’ve noticed my skin has been a little oily lately. I have always had combination skin, so this change is so odd. I researched the best foundations for oily skin and the MAC Studio Fix Fluid was one of the top recommendations. The reviews said you could probably wear the liquid foundation alone, but I prefer to set my base with powder. To give me a super matte finish, I picked up the Mineralized Skinfinish Natural powder as well.

The rep at Ulta also told me about the Foundation Pump, which I didn’t know about. So for an extra $10, I got the pump, and now I can squeeze out my base, saving more product in the long run.

I have a total of three eyeshadow palettes, and now I have four, since I picked up the Juvia’s Place The Warrior eyeshadow palette. With nine neutral shimmer and matte shadows, The Warrior palette is perfect for every day wear.

I also picked up some blotting papers from NYX. I didn’t read any reviews on blotting papers, I just knew I needed a product that would help remove shine, and at only $4, this is definitely worth the try.
